Colquitt Electric Membership Corporation (Colquitt EMC) is a not-for-profit, consumer-owned electric distribution system that serves more than 65,000 members in a seven-county area in southwest Georgia.
For many years, the small co-op had relied on a legacy meter system to track members’ power usage, but increasingly found the old system not only burdensome, but also expensive to operate. The co-op recognized that updating to an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) could bring new cost efficiencies and position the organization to be more compatible with sophisticated energy management systems planned in the future. Colquitt EMC sought a solution that its own workforce could use to drive the AMI deployment without disrupting service to its members.
